The Townsends Inlet Bridge will be closed for about three weeks starting Wednesday as part of $4.8 million in work on two local bridges funded through federal stimulus money.
The Cape May County-owned drawbridge, which connects Avalon to Sea Isle City, will be closed as the bridge is repainted and railings are replaced.
Allied Painting Inc. of Cherry Hill is doing the work, funded through the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the county said in a release.
Bridges are painted to protect against rust.
Meanwhile, the Grassy Sound Bridge in Middle Township is also being repainted. Work is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
