The 40th annual Captain Bill Gallagher Sea Isle City Beach Patrol 10-Mile Island Run will be held at 5:30 p.m. today at 44th Street beach in Sea Isle City.
The race, which is open to anyone, goes on the beach and the promenade.
Sign-ups are from noon to 5 p.m. at the Lodge at 300 Kennedy Boulevard. The fee is $30.
The race begins at 44th Street and first goes to Strathmere before turning in the opposite direction to Townsend’s Inlet. After a final turn, the finish is back at 44th Street.
Kathleen Jobes, then 39, won the race’s women’s championship for the fourth straight year in 2009, finishing in 57 minutes, 56 seconds. Corey Nowitzke of Ann Arbor, Mich., then 25, was the overall winner last year in 51:36.
The event honors Gallagher, a retired Sea Isle City Beach Patrol captain who opened up the former lifeguards-only race to everyone in the 1970s.
The race had more than 1,500 runners last year.
